ENSREG held its first regulatory conference on nuclear safety in 2011, the second in 2013, the third in 2015, and the fourth in 2017.
These events give an opportunity to ENSREG representatives and stakeholders from all over the world to exchange experiences and views on the challenges faced and achievements in nuclear safety in the EU and globally.
The fifth conference took place on Thursday 6 June (whole day) and Friday 7 June (half day) in Brussels at the usual venue: Charlemagne building of the European Commission, 170 Rue de la Loi / Boulevard Charlemagne, 1040 Brussels.
The key topic of the Conference was the conclusion and the follow-up of the first Topical Peer Review (TPR). This exercise was introduced by the amended Nuclear Safety Directive in 2014 and takes place every six years. This first one took place in 2017 and 2018 and was the most important nuclear safety exercise in Europe after the post-Fukushima stress tests. It focused on the ageing management of nuclear installations, a crucial safety issue of today and tomorrow, particularly considering plans for long-term operation of nuclear reactors.
Other important topics include decommissioning and waste management, standardisation of supply chain and component obsolescence, and knowledge management.
The conference was web streamed, here are the links to the video recordings (available for two years):
